No maker's name.

Tailpiece is a brass replica of a vintage J. E. Dallas tailpiece.  Shoes, hooks and nuts are a mix.

CONVERSION:

Converted from tenor to 5-string by adding walnut molding (wings) to both sides of neck,  1/4" fretless walnut fingerboard on top of existing fingerboard, 1/4 in deep brass-floored frailing scoop just below octave.

This is a short-scale banjo, since it uses the original tenor neck.  Violin peg tuners, Nylgut "Minstrel" strings.

I put on a peghead plate w/ MOP inlay from Tony Tsai.

DIMENSIONS:

Head dia. = 11  in.,  20 hooks.

Scale length 22 in.

String span @ nut=13/16  in

String span @ heel = 1  5/8 in.

Bridge =  3/4 in. tall

SETUP:

*  action @ scoop  = 7/16 in.

*  action @ octave =  3/16 in.

FLAWS:

Peghead plate was modified from a plate meant for a larger peghead.  The inlay was a little "over the top" and I removed the lower peg scroll inlays, since they didn't fit the location of the existing 1st and 3rd string pegs.  The surface of the plate near the nut is a little uneven if you look at it closely.

Neck was cleanly broken at the heel, has been well-repaired and is stable.

Normal scuffing due to age.  Overall, not an "art" banjo, but a solid player.

ON THE PLUS SIDE:

Good sound, good playability, overall in nice shape.
