Tailpiece is a brass replica of a vintage J. E. Dallas tailpiece. Shoes, hooks and nuts are alike, appear to be original. Nice "colonial maple" color. CONVERSION: Converted from a vintage (circa 1920) tenor to 5-string by adding walnut molding (wings) to both sides of neck, 1/4" fretless walnut fingerboard on top of existing fingerboard, 1/4 in deep brass-floored frailing scoop just below octave. This is a short-scale banjo, since it uses the original tenor neck. Violin peg tuners, Nylgut "Minstrel" strings, Yellowstone head. Peghead was plain and I put in a small MOP inlay. DIMENSIONS: Head dia. = 10 3/4 in., 20 hooks. Now set up w/ scale length 191/2 in. String span @ nut=13/16 in String span @ heel = 1 5/8 in. Bridge = 5/8 in. tall
SETUP: * action @ scoop = 1/2 in. * action @ octave = 3/16 in.
FLAWS: Two very small scars in fingerboard near 5th string pip, have been repaired and are barely visible. Normal scuffing due to age.
ON THE PLUS SIDE: Good sound, good playability, overall in nice shape.
