No tone ring, head rests on wood.
Vega medium-gage steel strings.

I added a small MOP star at the heel.

DIMENSIONS:

Head dia. = 11"

Scale length 25 3/4"

String span @ nut = 1"

String span @ heel = 1 5/8".

Bridge = 3/4"

16 shoes & hooks

SETUP:

*  action @ heel  = 3/8".

*  action @ octave = 3/8".

FLAWS:

Metal cladding is moderately corroded.

Uses original friction tuners....not really a flaw, but takes some getting used to if you've never used them.  These are a little bit less precise than geared tuners, and take more attention than geared tuners.  The banjo stays in tune.

Normal scuffing due to age.  Overall the finish is in fair condition, finish is thin & wood is somewhat stained @ left hand position.  Had cheap guitar-type tuners.... I replaced them w/ friction tuners.  Holes from guitar tuners filled but still visible.

ON THE PLUS SIDE:

A good-sounding, simple vintage banjo.  Set-up about as well as possible, plus weaknesses & "wobble" fixed.  A good player for a modest price.
