Original fingerboard was rutted and unuseable.  I put in a 1/4" walnut fingerboard, frets, a brass-floored frailing scoop, and brass plate up to the 5th fret, so this is a partial fretless.

I also put in a simple MOP inlay at the octave.  I set the scale length so that the bridge would be closer to the center of the head.

Original friction-type pegs.  Head rests on rolled-over metal ring.  Cladding on pot is in fair shape.  I didn't polish the cladding, just cleaned w/ soap & water so the dirt is gone but the "patina" remains.

Missing most hooks, so I made up brass hooks & nuts.

DIMENSIONS:

Head dia. = 10 3/4  in.,  38 hooks.

Scale length 25 7/8 in.

String span @ nut = 1  in

String span @ heel = 1  1/2 in.

Bridge = ~ 1/2 in. tall.  I gave it a vintage bridge.

SETUP:

*  action @ scoop  = 5/8 in.

*  action @ octave = 1/4 in.

FLAWS:

Had no dowel yoke.  I made up a brass plate and used screws to secure pot to heel, a lá Buckbee.

Uses original friction tuners....not really a flaw, but takes some getting used to if you've never used them.  These are a little bit less precise than geared tuners, and take more attention than geared tuners.  The banjo stays in tune.

Normal scuffing due to age.  Overall the finish is in good condition.

ON THE PLUS SIDE:

Good volume & tone, nice playability, overall in good shape.  I like Supertone's place in history as a maker of banjos for the masses - a lot of people played these instruments.
